Giving words to our grief are the most difficult words that we write or read, or even say aloud to ourselves. “A single person is missing for you, and the whole world is empty.” ‘The Year of Magical Thinking’ by Joan Didion, memoir of bereavement, is an outpour of raw words crying of love lost. Crying to find solace in words. You can not put an end-date on grief and mourning. If you have loved, and if sadly you have lost a loved one… this book will not be easy to read. But it will help you heal. Perhaps, when we see our emotions and pain shared by others. When we see the pain laid out in words… we find peace in those words. “I know why we try to keep the dead alive: we try to keep them alive in order to keep them with us.” Didion’s brave literary masterpiece will make you want to live every moment, love and not lose on loved ones, while life still exists. Because… “Life changes fast. Life changes in an instant. You sit down to dinner and life as you know it ends.” Life is in moments. Capture. Live.
